Kock - Post Office Building - Joselewicza 7 - probably the location of the court of Tzadik Menachem Mendel Morgensztern.

Since 1829. The famous tzaddik Menachem Mendel Morgenstern (1787-1859) lived and taught in Kock, thanks to whom the town became one of the most important centers of Hasidism in Poland alongside Lublin, Kozienice, Przysucha, Góra Kalwaria and Lezajsk. Morgenstern was born in Bilgoraj. He was a disciple of Symcha Binema of Przysucha and Jacob Isaac Horowitz of Lublin. He created a doctrine (called Kock Hasidism), emphasizing spontaneous, fervent faith. In his studies, Morgenstern pursued a synthesis of Kabbalah and Talmud, and was interested in medieval philosophy and secular sciences. In 1839., after experiencing a mystical experience, destroyed all his manuscripts and spent the last 20 years of his life in seclusion, in a locked room next to the prayer hall in his home in Kock. After Menachem Mendel's death, the leader of the Hasidim in Kock became his son Benjamin, followed by further descendants David, Chaim Yisrael, Moses Mordechai and Abram Josek, who - as the last of the dynasty - died in Warsaw in 1939. Menachem Mendel Morgenstern and the Hasidim of Kock were repeatedly the heroes of literary works - they were described, among other things. by Josef Opatosh in his trilogy: In pojlisze welder (In the Polish Forests, 1921).It is believed that the house belonging to Menachem Mendel may have been located on what was formerly St. Bialobrzeska, today - Berka Joselewicza 7, on the site where the post office building now stands.
