9. The Mall and Literary Walk

The only straight line you will find in all of Central Park is the Mall. Originally designed as a place for contemplation, it became an area dedicated to figures of literary excellence.

Leaving the fountain, either head under the lower passage or take the stairs going up. The Mall will be directly in front of you after you walk out. To the left is the bandshell. Further down the Mall and to the right is the Literary Walk and the Women’s Rights Pioneers monument.
