The Paraporti was protected during the Middle Ages, much like the Trani Porta, by a pair of defensive towers. However, due to the particular terrain, it was more vulnerable to hostile attacks (they could pass through on horseback, as well as with a cart) and hence was shielded by a colonnade.
16. The Paraporti
The Paraporti is considered to be the second most important entrance of the Castle in Chora and is located on the southern side of the medieval fortress settlement.
