Waiter, a coffee please, and fast!

Getting out of prison was the easy part. Leaving Venice, perhaps never to come back, must have been a much harder proposition for Casanova. This was, after all, his home. And yet leave he must, for who knew what would happen if he was re-arrested. The only way to leave was by sea and so he headed to the docks. First, though he entered Caffè Florian. This coffeehouse was founded in 1720 in Piazza San Marco and was then known as “Venice Triumphant” or simply “Floriano”. He had one last cup of coffee in the familiar luxury of a Venetian coffeehouse and then he boarded the gondola that would take him abroad.
